All positions are held for two-year terms.
Nomination Eligibility Requirements for all positions: NYSAWLA member in good standing for a minimum of three years.
President
- Coordinates all meetings
- Prepares agendas for meetings
- Approves all official NYSAWLA correspondence
- Works closely with webmaster
- Grants final approval of all official statements made on behalf of NYSAWLA
- Represents NYSAWLA or designates representation to other educational institutions, organizations, agencies and professional meetings
- Oversees the organization’s strategic planning process
- Is signatory on all accounts and co-signs all checks with the treasurer
First Vice-President
- Attends all board meetings
- Serves as coordinator of the FLACS Exams
- Oversees co-chairs for steering committees
- Coordinator of Exam calendar
- Oversees field testing of exams & feedback
- Is the contact person regarding exams
- Oversees all other NYSAWLA committees
Second Vice President
- Attends all board meetings
- Prepares calendar for the following year
- Serves as chairperson of the spring conference:
- Coordinates vendors, food, and workshops
- Coordinates workshop/conference presenters
- Prepares conference program
- Coordinates registration with the secretary-treasurer
Treasurer
- Assists in developing a budget.
- Provides detailed reports on NYSAWLA finances at executive board meetings and provides a general financial report at general membership meetings.
- Co-signs all necessary checks on behalf of NYSAWLA.
- Maintains a membership database and provides the executive board with an updated list of members.
- Keeps NYSAWLA funds in an approved bank.
- Works with a certified accountant to ensure all NYS and federal documents and forms are completed and submitted.
Board Liaison Officer (2 positions)
- Attends all board meetings
- Consults with president on all official contact with the media – may serve as the official spokesperson with the media as authorized by the president, or if the president is unavailable
- Publicizes NYSAWLA scholarships and awards. Convenes a committee of NYSAWLA members in good standing to select the scholarship and award winners
- Promotes the goals of NYSAWLA via email and social media
- Responds to general inquiries about the organization
- Carries out any additional duties as determined by the executive board.
Immediate Past President
- Attends all board meetings
- Mentors the president as needed
- Assists at all conferences and events as needed.
