2022 Scholarship and Award Recipients
Outstanding Achievement in World Languages
Amy Zocchi, a graduating senior from the Arlington Central School District, has been selected as a recipient of the 2023 NYSAWLA Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement in World Languages! She is pictured with her world language teacher, Madame Daleo-Stock, who nominated her for this award and shared that “Amy is a motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated language learner who will one day join our field as an exceptional educator.”
Teacher Leadership Award
Ms. Margaret Krone, a dedicated and passionate world language teacher in the Commack School District, has been selected as the 2023 recipient of the NYSAWLA Teacher Leadership Award. The evidence of her work and contributions made her stand out as an important role model for world language educators throughout New York State, and we applaud her passion and dedication. Eric Biagi, Assistant Principal of Commack High School, submitted her nomination and shared with the committee the commitment, passion, creativity and love that she has for the profession, her students, colleagues, and district. Mr. Biagi states, “Margaret is the ‘go to’ for the department. Where other departments have Directors and Coordinators to handle the administrative processes of the department, World Languages has only Margaret to turn to, and she never disappoints. Whether it be a teacher looking for guidance on how to contact an upset parent, a new teacher looking for feedback on their unit plan or a building administrator looking for data and analysis of grades, Margaret answers the call and finds time for everyone, even to teach her own load of classes! ”
