2022 Scholarship and Award Recipients
Outstanding Achievement in World Languages
Lacey Bowen, a graduating senior from the Massapequa School district, has been selected as a recipient of the 2022 NYSAWLA Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement in World Languages! She is pictured with her world language teacher, Ms. Karen Oliviera, who nominated her for this award. Lacey is about to begin her educational journey and continue her language studies at the University of Rhode Island. We wish her the best of luck.
Teacher Leadership Award
Ms. Patricia Foley, a dedicated and passionate world language teacher in the Seaford School District, has been selected as the 2022 recipient of the NYSAWLA Teacher Leadership Award. The evidence of her work and contributions made her stand out as an important role model for world language educators throughout New York State, and we applaud her passion and dedication. Dr. Charles Leone submitted her nomination and shared with the committee the commitment, passion, creativity and love that she has for the profession, her students, colleagues, and district.
NYSAWLA Scholarship for Outstanding Achievement in World Languages
This award is given to seniors who exhibit outstanding achievement in the study of a world language. The student must demonstrate academic excellence in their course of study and plan on pursuing the study of world languages in college.
NYSAWLA Administrative Vision Award
This award recognizes the contributions and support of central administration in our school districts who have demonstrated clear and consistent support and advocacy of World Language programs. We are happy to accept applications for this award for Assistant Superintendents or Superintendents.
NYSAWLA Teacher Leadership Award
It is important to recognize leadership exhibited by the teachers in our departments. This award will recognize a teacher who has assumed leadership responsibility in some manner during the school year for the department, school and/or district.
