The elected members of the NYSAWLA Board serve in the roles of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Liaison Officer.
There are currently no open board positions.
Dr. David Balsamo was voted as president for the 2025-2027 term. We warmly welcome him back as our board president.
Ms. Kathy Greiche has been elected Treasurer for the 2025–2027 term. We warmly welcome her to this role and extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Jimmy Kalamaras for his dedicated service as Treasurer.

Executive Board Descriptions
President
The Duties of the President:
- Convenes and presides over Executive Board meetings and general membership meetings
- Sets the agenda for each meeting
- Prepares all official NYSAWLA correspondence
- Grants final approval of all official statements made on behalf of NYSAWLA
- May invite consultants as needed and on a temporary basis to attend Executive Board meetings as set forth in Article V Section 1
- Acts as liaison or designates a liaison between NYSAWLA and other professional organizations
- Oversees the organization’s strategic planning process
- Is a signatory on all accounts and co-signs all checks with the Secretary-Treasurer
- Has no vote on resolutions except to break a deadlock.
- Responds to general inquiries about the organization
Vice-President
The Duties of the Vice-President
- Attends all board meetings
- Serves as coordinator of the NYSAWLA Exams
- Oversees co-chairs for steering committees
- Coordinates the Exam calendar
- Oversees field testing of exams and feedback
- Serves as the contact person regarding exams
- Oversees all other NYSAWLA committees.
Secretary
The Duties of the Secretary
- Attends all Board meetings and takes minutes of the meetings
- Distributes minutes to Executive Board in a timely manner
- Assists in registration of meetings and conferences
- Ascertains the presence of a quorum at each Executive Board meeting.
- Organizes, plans, prepares for membership meetings, including end-of-year luncheon
- Maintains website content and oversees social media updates
- Coordinates vendors, food, and workshops
- Promotes the goals of NYSAWLA via email and social media
- Provides the Executive Board with a monthly updated list of members
Treasurer
The Duties of the Treasurer
- Attends all board meetings
- Provides detailed reports on NYSAWLA finances at Executive Board meetings and provides a general financial report at general membership meetings
- Co-signs all necessary checks on behalf of NYSAWLA
- Maintains aMember database
- Keeps NYSAWLA funds in an approved bank
Board Liaison Officer
The Duties of the Liaison Officer
- Attends all board meetings
- Supports the Vice President with coordination of FLACS item writing and exam distribution.
- Consults with the President on all official contact with the media – may serve as the official spokesperson with the media as authorized by the President or if the President is unavailable
- Publicizes NYSAWLA scholarships and awards. Convenes a committee of NYSAWLA members in good standing to select the scholarship and award winners
Immediate Past-President
The Duties of the Immediate Past-President
- Attends all board meetings
- Mentors the President as needed
- Assists at all conferences and events as needed.
